Chang En-Man

The Great Deluge: Oral History from Pacavalj takes its text from a Pacavalj Paiwan flood account recorded in a 1935 colonial document. Chang sews it in reverse stitch across roughly nine metres of pale cloth, Roman letters interwoven with characters that are difficult to decipher.

She works with the account as it survives inside a record written and classified by outsiders. The reading stays difficult; the work does not make it easier.
