Chang Shan-Hsueh was born in Taipei in 1984 and lives and works there. His practice begins with lived experience and unfamiliar places, using repeated visits, bodily movement, and painting to work through what he sees.
In 2014 he began keeping ferns on a north-facing balcony near Xingtian Temple; in 2017 he audited fern taxonomy at National Taiwan University. Plants became a principal subject of his painting in 2022.
