Korean master ceramists destroy pieces that do not meet their standards, preserving the rarity and value of the ones they accept. Yeesookyung gathers those fragments and lets the object take shape through assembly rather than designing a complete form in advance.
The ongoing Translated Vase series has drawn on fragments from North Korea and Europe since 2010. In Translated Vase TVGW 2, white pieces form a broad rounded body, celadon and decorated shards gather at the top, and gold lines leave every join visible.
