Spend an afternoon among books and stories, then take a new book home on the train.

A plan to get Chaozhou’s hot-and-cold ice dessert can acquire a heavy book bag this weekend. Twenty independent bookshops are setting up on Jianji Road on October 24–25, alongside 22 local and arts brands. Participants include Forever Young Books, Nannan Books, 旗津thak冊 and Narrativesaw.

Start with the book stalls and let a title interrupt your walk. The programme also has small-book workshops, talks and performances. The adjoining 大潮 arts market brings the combined gathering to more than a hundred stalls of books, local making and food.

On Saturday, the stage offers a local-writing talk with 陳凱琳 at 13:30, a session with picture-book author 方一隻 at 14:00, then music by Aguang阿光 from 14:30 to 15:30. Most stage conversation will be in Mandarin; the books, stalls and music give a visiting reader plenty to explore.

The book market runs 11:00–18:00 on both days, on Jianji Road between Minsheng and Nanjin roads. Use the Japanese-era historical-building cultural park as your starting pin, then follow the street map on the poster. It is about 585 metres, or nine minutes on foot, from Chaozhou railway station to the park. Individual stalls and workshops have their own hours and charges.
