A pair of chopsticks can carry a little of the work you did in Taipei back to your own dinner table.

The next time someone admires your chopsticks, you can be extremely annoying about having made them yourself.

At Jiwoodwork, a beginner lesson takes wooden blanks through a hand plane and sandpaper. A heated tool burns in your name, a message or a small mark. You make a chopstick rest too. The designer teaches in a converted old house behind Dihua Street's Xiahai City God Temple; the studio is on the third floor.

Solo bookings are welcome, with Mandarin or English instruction. Allow about 90 minutes, choose a session and complete payment at least a day beforehand. Materials and the tools used in class are included. Two people can use the pair-booking page; for more than three, contact the studio first.
