Taimali and Jinfeng, Taitung · Outdoor art route along a highway

The South Link art route

Four stops on the southern end of Highway 9: a coastal slope, a hot spring by a river, a station hall, and a village hillside.

On a grassy slope at dusk, blue-green mosaic arcs curve out of the ground beside a long red-and-black patterned band, with plants growing between the arcs and a row of concrete blocks along the ridge behind.

No park, no ticket desk. The works sit inside places where people live, and until October 31 the road itself is the exhibition.

The South Link is the road across Taiwan's southern tip, joining the Pacific coast to the Pingtung plain. It runs through Paiwan and Rukai land, with very little distance between highway, railway, and village.

The 2026 festival placed four works at Huayuan, Jialan, Jinlun, and Ljaljiba. All are free, and the outdoor ones have no opening hours; the Jinlun work is inside the station ticket hall and follows station hours. There are no staff at the works, and the mountain road is unlit after dark.

On a circular painted panel two black figures stand side by side between a rising sun, mountains, and water, their bodies patterned with Paiwan motifs; a ring of golden relief figures runs around the rim, with roots and fish below.

Get there

Public transport

Both express and local trains stop at Jinlun, and the station work is visible without leaving the building. The other three have no direct public transport: Huayuan is about twenty minutes north by road, and Jialan and Ljaljiba are up in Jinfeng. A taxi or rental car from Jinlun station is the practical option. Rides get scarce in the hills after four, so arrange the way back in advance.
