Start at the old police-station facade, then follow the glass corridor into the newer galleries behind it.

Building 1 occupies Tainan's former police station, designed by Sutejirou Umezawa and completed in 1931. Its stepped Art Deco gable and warm brickwork face Nanmen Road; a glass corridor connects the restored building to the newer galleries behind it.

Take time over that meeting of old and new before continuing across the road towards the Confucius Temple and Fuzhong Street. This is the municipal museum at 37 Nanmen Road; the National Museum of Modern Art Tainan nearby on Zhongyi Road is a separate venue.
