Pine branches and daylight cross the bookstore window. Behind the reflections are a wooden room, a long table laid with open books, and a wall of shelves.
Ting Bookstore begins with sound. Its shelves concentrate on music, sound engineering, and theory. New books are for sale; selected used books stay in the room for visitors to read.
The bookstore occupies part of Hualien Port Broadcasting Station 1944. The same address also holds Pacific Sound Hub's permanent Tracing Back sound exhibition, 1944 Café, a sound workspace called Ear Nest, and a recording room available by reservation. Books sit beside rooms where sound is exhibited, discussed, and recorded.
Ting Bookstore also hosts occasional reading groups and workshops. Visitors can browse the shelves, sit with one of the reading copies, and buy a book to take home.
The bookstore opens two days each week. It is close to Pine Garden, above central Hualien, and about ten minutes from Hualien Station by taxi. Inside, the long table leaves room to stop rather than pass quickly along the shelves.

From Hualien Station, a taxi takes about ten minutes; walking is roughly 2.5 kilometres and about 37 minutes. The bookstore is near Pine Garden; navigate to No. 96 Songyuan Street.
