Tsai Jui-yueh taught here, was imprisoned for political reasons, and returned to dance. The wooden studio later burned, was rebuilt, and remains in use.
Tsai Jui-yueh trained in Japan, returned to Taiwan, was imprisoned under the White Terror, and kept teaching and choreographing afterwards. This Japanese-era wooden house was her institute.
The building burned in 1999 and was rebuilt. The floor is newer than the practice; the technique travelled through people, not through timber.
Most days you will find an empty studio. Check the programme if you want to see dance there.
