Xing Village, Gangshan

After four years of repair, an air-force village reopens with some postwar additions kept beside its older buildings.

A restoration that leaves more than one era standing.

Xing Village in Gangshan began as staff housing for a Japanese-era aircraft depot. After the war, the Air Force Academy and other air-force schools moved to Gangshan, and the village became home to pilots’ families. It reopened on October 3, 2026, after four years of repair.

The restoration team worked through roof tiles, timber, arches and building details one by one. It also kept some of the additions built after the war, and places where plants and buildings have grown into each other. So the seven main buildings on the 1.72-hectare site do not pretend to belong to one moment. Walk slowly and look for the joins, where one period’s building meets another’s.

Three exhibitions opened with the village, with no end date announced: 降落22.47°N—看見岡山日常 in Building B, 聆聽醒光 in Building C, and 時代的迴音-《一把青》戲劇特展, on the television drama, in Building D.

The village is at 88 Xing Road, Gangshan. From Gangshan Station it is roughly 2.1 km on foot, about half an hour. Village entry is free; activities and shops charge separately. Open Monday and Wednesday–Friday 10:00–17:00, Saturday–Sunday 10:00–18:00; closed Tuesdays.

Side by side: on the left, a porch with its roof fallen in and timber on the ground; on the right, the same porch with roof and wooden windows repaired.
