Turn the pages, follow their folds and spend time with the photographs and sound.
In the art space’s photograph, pale pages stand upright like a row of little rooms. Cut-outs let sunlight through; dark panels throw shadows across the table. A book can make you move around it before you have read a word.
Two exhibitions, with your hands involved
Middle Art Space’s Drifting Library programme brings together Moving Grounds and Rhythm. Moving Grounds, curated by Franek Ammer with Fotofestiwal Łódź, combines more than forty Polish photobooks with ambient music, field recordings and experimental sound. Rhythm approaches artist books through their pages, structures and the motion of turning them. The organiser invites visitors to browse and interact with the books.
Give yourselves an hour. Each choose a book, spend time with its pages, then show the other person the detail that caught you. You do not need matching taste. A disagreement about a fold is a perfectly good start to the afternoon.
