A museum takes a rest

In the museum's photograph of Huang Shao-ying's 休憩室, two soft handles bulge out from tall rectangular backings. A visitor sits against a padded window. Objects from MoCA Taipei's backstage offices have become fabric, wood and found-object constructions for resting bodies.

Elsewhere, four screens show a uniformed man beside a blue van and a rocky slope. Val Lee's five-minute, four-channel Museum Security puts guards' work into the exhibition. In the artist's account, that work involves staying present, reading people and rooms, and remaining ready during hours when nothing happens.

The Museum After opens that ordinary machinery to view before MoCA's announced three-year restoration. Curators 林映穎 and 劉怡均 bring fourteen artists and groups to its rooms and corridors. Start with the handles and the screens.
