In curator Lin Yen-Chu's programme, REC means record, receive, recode and recursion. Images are captured, passed through systems, changed and sent back into circulation.
The programme begins with processes that change an image—scanning, sampling, compression and computation—and follows them into surveillance, social platforms, machine control, artificial intelligence and feedback.
The exhibition brings together five artists: Ng Tsz-kwan (吳子昆), Yao Cong (姚聰), Leung Yin-wai (梁彥偉), Chen Ai-lin (陳艾琳) and Ssu-Chi Hou (侯思齊).
Ssu-Chi Hou's artist website offers one route beyond the programme listing. It documents her work with digital and physical images, light, material, architecture and the body's act of reading an image.
Signal World [REC] runs at 852 Art Space on Tunghai Art Street from September 5 to 27. Admission is free.

The space is on Tunghai Art Street and has no direct metro stop. From central Taichung, use a bus serving Tunghai University or Art Street.
