Yvonne Chen's Star Horse

Four legs descend from the pale-blue body of Yvonne Chen's Star Horse. They widen into blunt feet, the front pair splaying away from one another. The body lifts above them in a broad arch. Its tail curls back without closing, leaving another opening inside the loop.

A dark mane runs down the neck. The feet are blue-green. A yellow-and-white star sits on the horse's side among smaller dots, and one cheek is pink. All four broad feet meet the plinth.

After an exhibition last November, Chen deliberately left a gap in her schedule. She began working with clay during that gap and describes becoming absorbed in ceramics as a way to relax. For about three months she mixed colored slips and prepared unfired bodies. She postponed some firings because of the summer heat. A picture-book idea was developing at the same time.

Some of those ceramic works are now in Time to Wander. Star Horse, made in 2026 from ceramic, glaze, and colored slip, measures 22.9 by 19.8 centimetres in Donna Art's listing. Beneath its belly, the space inside a drawn contour has become the space between the body and the plinth.

At least six ceramic animals share a white platform in the current installation. One yellow body rises over dark, dripping legs. A pink animal leaves a different gap beneath its body. Across the group, the legs form different arches and gaps above the plinth.

Chen links the exhibition to another part of her daily life: walking her dog. She went out repeatedly at different hours, took different routes, and met whatever happened to be there. The title 《散步時間》 names that routine.
