Some uniforms didn't get the job

Justin Chou's UNIFORMOSA opens up 21 years of uniform design, from Olympic entrance outfits to proposals left behind. Free at C-LAB through October 18.

Two people wear white shirts and navy waistcoats against a blue backdrop. Blue-and-white mountain landscapes cross the sleeves and torsos, with small badges on the waistcoats.

Look at finished uniforms and the possibilities that were not selected.

Blue-grey mountains cross a shirt sleeve and continue over a waistcoat in Justin Chou's A Joy uniforms. Above the landscape sits a little lapel badge.

For Taipei Fashion Week, Chou brings 21 years of uniform design to C-LAB. UNIFORMOSA includes outfits for the Tokyo and Paris Olympic entrances and uniforms for cultural institutions, alongside proposals that were not selected and actual sample garments.

Look at the published design documents too. Beside a pink suit, one sheet sketches a bendy straw labelled as a removable lapel pin. Before the uniform is settled, even that little device has a chance of making it onto someone's body.

Overlapping uniform proposal sheets show pink suits, orange-and-white tops and a Taichung Green Museumbrary heading. A bendy straw beside the pink suits is labelled as a removable pin.
