Viga gives Tainan's weather observatory a small, busy population.

Three little people climb onto the weather observatory's tower and get a red flag each. More faces appear in the windows downstairs; one person on either side has been assigned tree-hugging duty. Viga's Tainan Weather Observatory seems pleased with these personnel arrangements.

The black roof is enormous, spreading like a skirt beneath the white tower. Two tall trees hold the sides of the picture, and a row of little ones finishes the bottom. Most things have a partner. The faces, however, refuse to be properly symmetrical. You can spend a while investigating who got a window and who was left outside.

Painted in 2026, this acrylic work measures 53 × 45.5 cm. Viga has lived and worked in Kyoto for years; Hanadoki brings Tainan's buildings into an already plant-filled world. The gallery's published works also include Hayashi Department Store and old houses.

Yao Yi-Chung's erhu concert is listed for September 26, 15:00–16:00; see the gallery's registration form for terms and availability.
