These flowers have taken half the page

The red flowers on Wei Hsiu-min's invitation for 《刻畫印記》 take nearly half the sheet. Green stems gather below; blue and gold sweep past the edges. The exhibition information has to behave itself on the other half. Probably wise. This flower tenant has a formidable presence and looks difficult to negotiate with.

The thick surface catches the eye first. From a distance, you can still make out a bouquet. Move closer and the ridges and dark marks across the petals pull your eye back to the paint. You might get lost in a patch of blue and forget which flower you were looking for.

Wei is a master's student in visual arts at National Pingtung University. Her exhibition runs in room 201 of Pingtung Art Museum through September 20, 2026. The museum's introduction also describes mountain landscapes, fields, figures and everyday scenes.

Next door in room 202, Liu Zhen-kun's 《刻畫人生》 runs for the same dates. From these unruly red flowers to dense black-and-white woodcuts: your eyes get a change of job. Both exhibitions are at the city museum beside Zhongshan Park, 74 Zhongzheng Road. Don't head to the county art museum at the old tobacco factory by mistake.
