Southbound, towards home

An orange train at platform 2A; a blue train beneath Dongmen Overpass. DaddyPainting spent a month painting the railway views Tainan was about to lose.

An orange-and-white train stands beside Tainan Station's platform 2A. Passengers with backpacks wait under the canopy, beneath overhead wires and a pale blue sky. Watercolour on paper, shown with its original margins.

Look at the people, wires and waiting places inside a city's familiar railway landscape.

The orange-and-white train almost noses out of the painting. Behind it, passengers gather beneath platform 2A's canopy: backpacks, a yellow line, the platform sign. In his October 14 post, 畫畫老爸—DaddyPainting—calls southbound “the direction home.”

In 《東門路橋下》, the bridge beams press across the top of the picture. Yellow wires lead towards a blue-fronted train, with houses crowded along the curve. The painter asks for one more look at the overpass, tracks and train. The first stage of Tainan's underground railway opened on October 17, after the old surface platforms' final night.

DaddyPainting says he made eleven railway and station pictures during a month from mid-September, adding an earlier view of the Changrong Road footbridge to make twelve. A local shop's invitation brought the idea of postcards and a small exhibition into the process. On October 25, he opened preorders for his first set: twelve watercolour postcards, an overview card and a trace map.

His profile calls him “A Dad Learning ART,” fitting drawing around engineering, helping his daughter and late nights.
