A Taitung corner with cats, books and small local publications.

Look at Huanghuang's earlier book-wall photograph: someone seems to have tipped the interests out of their head until the shelves could barely hold them. A cat-shaped clock, cameras, handwritten cards and face-out books crowd the wooden display. A tree has sprouted on the poster by the door. Owner Su-su simply chooses books she wants to read. New and secondhand copies mingle with small eastern-Taiwan publications—the local stories you might struggle to find even with a searchlight in a chain bookshop.

Books, coffee and local food share the house with the real management. The shop's rule is clear: the cats are in charge, and no petting. Keep a sociable distance and admire the supervisors inspecting the business, or sleeping on the job.

In her July 2026 Liberty Times interview, Su-su named the loft among the books as her favourite spot and recommended the shop's “book prescription”: one reading dose a day for seven days. She also recommended the red-oolong Basque cheesecake. The catering on this reading plan sounds very good indeed.

People also gather here for stories. Guerrilla Publishing brought its《霧裡仍有路》book tour to Huanghuang on September 4, 2026. That event has ended; follow the shop for the next conversation. Between events, choose a book, order something and settle in.

Open 14:00–20:00, closed Tuesdays. A book or a drink buys you a reading seat. From Taitung Bus Station in the city, allow half an hour for the 2.2 km walk, or take a taxi. This is the city bus station, not TRA Taitung Station to the north.
