Why this order
Two neighbouring halls, two ways of keeping things. In West 2, Taiwan Panorama shows half a century of Taiwan photographed going about its business: daily life, public works and resilience, democracy and freedom, Taiwan abroad. In West 1, more than 100 toy designers and collectors bring what they make and what they cannot stop collecting. See the photographs first, while your attention is still yours. The toys will take it anyway.
A suggested afternoon
Two to three hours: photographs from 13:00, toys around 14:15, then the park. The times are our suggestion. Official hours: Taiwan in Focus, daily 10:00–18:00, October 9–19; ARK Monsters Toy Exchange DX, daily 11:00–18:00, October 8–11. Both halls are open together October 9–11, 11:00–18:00. The photography is free; the toy exchange is free once you follow the organiser on Instagram or Facebook.
Use the Huashan directions above: Google's walking route from Shandao Temple MRT is 731 metres, about 10 minutes. Huashan's transit page times the walk to the park entrance at about 3 minutes from Zhongxiao Xinsheng Exit 1, or 5 from Shandao Temple Exit 6. Both halls are inside the same park, so after the entrance you simply walk between them.

West 2 Hall · Taiwan in Focus
Start here around 13:00. Taiwan Panorama's 50th-anniversary show is free and open daily 10:00–18:00, October 9–19, in West 2, the former third distillation building (第三乾餾場). An hour gives the four themes room.

West 1 Hall · ARK Monsters Toy Exchange DX
Walk — Stay in the park: West 1, the former second distillation building (第二乾餾場), is a short walk from West 2.
Around 14:15, cross over to the toys: more than 100 designers and collectors, daily 11:00–18:00 through October 11. Entry is free once you follow the organiser on Instagram or Facebook (Huashan's wording: 追蹤IG 免費入場), so keep your phone handy. Allow 45 minutes to an hour, longer if one particular shelf gets you.

The rest of the park
Keep the last half hour for the rest of the park. Huashan's outdoor spaces are open around the clock; shops and other indoor events set their own hours, so see what's open when you get there.
